Given the nature of material, canvass is not as durable as wood or steel. Environmental elements such as rain and sun will cause discoloration and mold too. This is the reason why homeowner's are advised to consider the weather on the area he is living as constant rain may cause mold to appear in canvass awnings. This type also entails regular maintenance and replacement too.

Aluminum

Aside from canvass, aluminum comes second when it comes to customer's preference. This type provides good protection from the rain and the sun. Durable and affordable it may seem, aluminum window awnings comes in just a limited styles and this is the main reason why there is a high probability that you will find the same awning in the whole block aside from the one you own.

Iron or Steel

These types offers stronger protection compared to fabric or wood. One low down though is their heaviness. Their weight makes it quite a challenge when installing one. Bear in mind that Aluminum, Iron or steel may hinder you from switching and trying out other design too. As opposed to canvass where one can try as many design as the owner wants, especially if cover is faded and needing a new canvass cover replacement.
